20 years of Texels

February 2013

2013 marks 20 years since the arrival of the Texel breed in Australia.

In the late 1980s, Bill Close was selected by the newly formed Australian Texel Stud Breeders Association to visit New Zealand each year to assess the genetics.

In February 1993 the Australian Texel Corporation, a group of investor breeders imported the sheep to Australia.

It has been exciting to see the continued development of the Texel breed in Australia over the past 20 years.
